Our Experience, Your Adventure
Africa is a continent of epic romance. From sweeping plains that stretch to the horizon to vast deserts, huge canyons and tropical beaches, Africa is rich with beauty. And then there’s the wildlife. Nowhere else in the world can you see elephants gathering around a waterhole at sunset, lion cubs playing in the savannah and wildebeest migrating in their thousands across the plains. It is magically diverse and totally addictive.
The Big 5
Who Are The Big 5?
Many people have most likely heard of the term ‘Africa’s Big 5’. But what five animals make up this iconic group that every safari goer want to see?
The Big 5 consists of lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Contrary to popular belief, however, the term ‘Big 5’ is not a reference to their size (although it is fair to say they are all on the large side, especially elephant and rhino!), but rather it is an old hunting term relating to how difficult and dangerous these animals were to hunt and shoot. If a hunter could ‘bag’ one of the Big 5, it was a real trophy.
Lion
The largest carnivore in Africa, lions are known for their excessive sleeping during the day, and active hunting during the night.
Leopard
Leopards are solitary animals, and hunt at night. Elusive and shy, seeing a leopard while on a game drive is a true bucket list treat.
Elephant
The largest land mammal in the world, an adult male elephant can live to 60 years and weigh up to 6,000 kg.
Rhino
Now an endangered species, the two rhino species are the white and the black rhino – although both appear to be grey!
Buffalo
Don’t be fooled by their rather ‘cow like’ appearance – the buffalo is the most dangerous of the Big 5 animals.

MARGHERITA PEAK – THE HIGHEST SUMMIT OF THE RWENZORI MOUNTAINS.
Margherita Peak which stands at 5109m on Mount Stanley in the Rwenzori mountains, ranks 3rd highest in Africa, and runs from the middle of Lake Albert towards the North, and Lake Edward to the south on the Congo-Uganda border. This summit, climbable between 6 to 8 days is the third highest in Africa following Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya.
This peak was first climbed by an excursion headed by Luigi Amedeo Abruzzi in 1906 the Duke of Abruzzi, J. Petigax, C. Ollier, as well as J. Brocherel. and was named after Queen Margherita of Italy.
The margherita peak is the forerunner of the high-altitude Rwenzori loop that starts from the rich forests at the edge, before rising high beyond the clouds towards Margherita’s glacial summit.
Set beyond Africa’s immense ice layer, the hike continues up exceeding the Margherita Glacier, towards the rock scramble to Mount Stanley peak – Africa’s 3rd highest summit – in the Rwenzori ranges and hence the highest peak in Uganda.
